1. MAGNITUDES.QUANTITIES
The magnitude in physics refers to a quantitative and measurable property of the
material characteristics. The magnitudes in science should be classified according to the number of
properties that are used to be measurable, for example, speed is a derived quantity, and so that it
can define it must be related to two other magnitudes such as length and time.
Way to quantify the magnitude also plays an important role here because we can classify scalar or
vector again.
To study any phenomenon under the laws of physics to speak of magnitudes implicitly
requires otherwise would simply be the phenomenon under observation.
The scalar quantities are those that are completely defined with a numeric value and their units,
while a vector quantity requires three characteristics to be considered as such, they are the size,
direction and meaning and whose graphical representation is an arrow.
Systems units play an important role when describing
a physical phenomenon, to be moreaccurate
in quantifying the time of a physical quantity.
Not to enter into discussions related to the measurement, standardization of measurement units is
almost always a necessity and for that reason came on the scene units of measurement pattern or
patterns; In 1960 an international committee set different standards for measuring units as
adaptations of the metric system, that system took the name of the international system
(SI).However, countries such as United States that have not adopted this system and still abide by
other so-called English system.
As there are several metrics with
different patterns arises the need for
conversions between the two
systems, for this reason the table
shows some approximations such equivalence.
Moreover, the different measurements can be done to very large amounts or other very small so
also employed multiple and submultiple units of pattern units;theseunits are expressedin powers
of10, whichin scienceare known asscientific notation.
Scientists and engineers use mathematics as a tool for
describing the behavior of physical systems.
