What are the pros/cons of on-line courses?
For both instructors and students, on-line courses
offer more flexibility over the time/place of learning;
you can participate in an on-line course when and
where you want (provide there is a computer handy).
Also, on-line courses offer new possibilities for
learning and teaching in terms of the way information
is presented (especially multimedia) and the kinds of
interaction. However, they do depend upon
technology and that introduces all the problems

5. associated with using computers and networks on a
regular basis. And, on-line learning/teaching may not
suit the personal styles of some learners and
instructors-or the needs of certain curricula or training
tasks.
How does an on-line course work?
There will be a number of assignments to be
completed. These assignments will involve working
on activities related to the topic of the week. You will
participate on the Discussion Board and you will also
be exchanging files. Your instructor will provide you
with feedback on your work, either in the form of e-
mail messages or comments posted on the Discussion
Board. The instructor may also return files that you
submitted with annotations. In addition, you may get
feedback from your classmates when your work is
posted on the Discussion Board or you work in
teams.

6. What are the secrets to success in on-line learning?
On-line learning takes a lot of self-discipline. You
must establish a study schedule and stick to it. Once
you get behind, it is difficult to catch up. You
need to participate in the course and interact with
everyone. For this reason, extended travel is a
problem for on-line learning, unless you take a laptop
with you or make regular use of cyber cafes.
You will undoubtedly encounter various technical
problems in terms of connecting to the Web and
figuring out how to do things on-line. It's important
not to panic or get too frustrated-in many cases, things
will make more sense the next day! Above all, you
should not be hesitant to ask help from you instructor,
or your classmates.
