Este documento explica cómo formar mandatos informales en español para decirle a un amigo que haga o no haga algo. Explica que para los mandatos positivos se quita la -s al verbo en forma de tú, como ¡Camin a! para caminas. Para los mandatos negativos se cambia la -as a -es o la -es a -as, como ¡No fum es! para fumas. También cubre algunos verbos que cambian de ortografía en los mandatos negativos para mantener su sonido, como jugar que se cambia a juegues

1. Informal Commands WALK! EAT! SLEEP!

2. In Spanish… When we want to tell a friend to do something we use informal (tú) commands… ¡Come! – EAT! ¡Camina!- WALK! ¡Duerme!- SLEEP! What looks familiar about these endings?

3. Commands are used for both do’s and don’ts Lets begin with the do’s (positive tú commands) To state the do’s of most verbs, drop the –s ending of the verb. STATEMENT COMMAND (tú) caminas ¡Camin a ! Walk! (tú) comes ¡Com e ! Eat! (tú) duermes ¡Duerm e ! Sleep! Positive Commands

4. Let’s work on positive commands… Open the window!… Verb Abrir Put it in the tú form = tú abres Drop the –s = abre ¡Abre la ventana!

5. Speak now!... Verb hablar Put hablar in the tú form= hablas Drop the –s = habla ¡Habla ahora! Let’s work on positive commands…

6. Drink water!... Verb beber Put beber in the tú form= bebes Drop the –s = bebe ¡Bebe agua! Let’s work on positive commands…

7. Negative Commands To state the don’ts- negative (tú) commands Switch the –as ending to –es and the –es endings to – as STATEMENT COMMAND (tú) fumas ¡No fum es ! Don’t smoke! (tú) corres ¡No corr as ! Don’t run! (tú) duermes ¡No duerm as ! Don’t sleep!

11. Verbs with spelling changes… There are several verbs that change spelling when made into negative commands to keep their sound… 1. Jugar - ¡No jue gues ! - g changes to gue to keep the hard g sound 2. Verbs ending in –car like Practicar - ¡No practi ques ! -c changes to a que to keep the hard k sound
