Good morning everybody. In this audio-text I want to talk to you about the impor-
tance of physical conditioning, and how it can help us have more energy during
the day
A lot of people would probably think that this is contradictory. I myself, who during
all my life have always done some exercise in more or less degree, surprise myself
with this thought
haceres diarios.
I'm tired and I save that energy for my other responsibilities and daily chores
However, I keep proving myself that, when I start doing exercise, the positive effect
that this generates somehow is transmitted to other goals that I also want to
achieve
Exercise is for me –and I know that also for many other people– a key habit that is
going to trigger a positive effect in other aspects of my life
M
2. We all know the benefits that doing exercise has in our body. Not only it helps us
achieve a more attractive body –which is the main motivation of many people–, ex-
ercise makes us feel good physically and mentally
¡sentir bien!
It is well-known that when we exercise our body it releases substances that gives
as that sensation of plenitude, which makes us, said in a simple way, feel good!
I know it's hard to start. I know it's hard to add that routine to our life. We feel lazy
about it and, given that we are not going to see instant results, we leave it for an-
other day
But as I told you in the previous post, it's this little daily actions the ones that takes
us to incredible results eventually
Besides, there is actually a, say, nearly instant reward, that is precisely that wellbe-
ing sensation. And my opinion is that, doing it properly, you can get this sensation
from the very first day
So what do I mean by doing it properly? Well, first, choosing the physical activity
you like. Something that requires physical effort, obviously
Depending on your fitness level, you can walk, ride you bike, run, go to the gym o
some team sport (but careful, in this last case you will have to rely on other people
to take action)
tividad no te haga sufrir.
3. Secondly, make it easy. If you're starting out, it's very important that that activity
doesn't make you suffer. The important thing is finishing what you were determined
to do without saying, at the end, "buf, I'm knackered"
ejercicio.
You will not have that wellbeing sensation and also you'll have had a bad time.
That's not what you want now. You now want to enjoy and knowing that you got it.
That you were able to gather the strength to put your sport clothes on and go out to
workout
¿Solo hiciste cinco minutos? ¡No pasa nada! Mañana puedes hacer otros cinco si
quieres: el objetivo está cumplido. Te puedes proponer hacerlo tres, cuatro o cinco
días a la semana, lo que quieras. Pero hazlo, y siéntete bien haciéndolo. No sufras.
You only did five minutes? It doesn't matter! Tomorrow you can do another five if
you want: the goal is accomplished. You can plan to do it three, four or five days
per week, whatever you want. But do it, and feel good doing it. Don't suffer
Poco a poco,
Eventually, you'll see that your body is going to be asking more and more. Little by
little, you'll be increasing the time you devote to you preferred physical activity,
you'll also be increasing the intensity and, at the end of each session, you well be-
ing sensation will be greater as well
Claro.
Em-
pieza hoy, poco a poco, y tú mismo verás los resultados.
Certainly. You'll feel more capable. Stronger. And little by little you'll be feeling more
and more proud of yourself, which will make you feel really good. Time is your al-
lied. Start today, little by little, and you'll see the results by yourself
Por qué he empezado a correr
Why have I started running
rante toda mi vida siempre he hecho algún tipo de actividad física.
4. Now I'm gonna talk to you a bit about my particular case. Like I told you earlier,
during all my life I have always done some kind of physical activity. However, over
the past years it's been rather poor (even though if I compare it with the activity of
some people I could consider it quite a lot!)
Going back to what I was saying, I have sort of neglected myself over the past few
years and now, maybe because of the fact that I've had so many changes and so
big, I've got the intention to start and get fit more seriously
The activity I've chosen as a grounding of my new fitness level is running
Running is an easy activity that barely requires material. Plus, it's for me a very im-
portant grounding skill for any other thing I want to do. When I feel in shape run-
ning, I feel my body is much more prepared to tackle other challenges
demás no tendrá esa base sólida.
For me, running is like the foundations of a building. Without this skill, everything
else won't have a solid grounding
Correr me hace sentir bien. He empezado poco a poco, sin sufrir. Esa es mi men-
deporte, salgo y empiezo, poco a poco.
Running makes me feel good. I've started little by little, without suffering. That's my
frame of mind when I feel lazy but I know that I have to do what I'm expected. I put
my sport clothes on, go out and start, little by little
Si corro quince minutos, bien. Si corro diez, no pasa nada. Si corro cuarenta, ¡per-
fecto!
If I run fifteen minutes, ok. If I run ten, that's fine. If I run forty minutes, perfect! But I
do something. At the beginning I have to force myself but, when I finish, there is no
day that I don't feel good
5. And that wellbeing sensation doesn't stop there, in that moment. Like I said at the
beginning, I notice how it spreads through other aspects of my life. My body works
better. I'm –physically and mentally– more ready for anything.
And then we have discipline. Discipline is necessary when we want to do a new
activity, when we want to be loyal to a routine
For some reason, being disciplined in the field of physical activity makes every-
thing else become more easy. That's why I said that it's a "key" habit. Because it's
going to generate a positive domino effect over other habits that we also may be
trying to establish
Difficult to explain, and this audio-text is going too long I think. I hope you find it in-
teresting, this stuff I write. I think that, for people with a medium-high level of Span-
ish, it's great material to practise
Remember that if you've got any doubts about some structure I've used, you can
leave a comment which I'll reply as soon as I can. Quite likely there will be many
people with the same doubt
Right, I'll say goodbye now. I hope you have a great week and remember to try to
practise your Spanish every day, even if it's just a little bit. See you next time!
¡No pares de aprender!
