2. In most English sentences with an action verb,
the subject performs the action denoted by the
verb.
These examples show that the subject is doing
the verb's action.
The man must have eaten five hamburgers.
The man (subject) is doing the eating (verb).
Marilyn mailed the letter.
Marilyn (subject) is doing the mailing (verb)
Active Voice

3. The passive voice is used when we want to
emphasize the action (the verb) and the object of
a sentence rather than subject.
This means that the subject is either less
important than the action itself or that we don’t
know who or what the subject is.
Structure:
Subject + finite form of to be + Past Participle
(3rd column of irregular verbs)

4. Examples:
A letter is written by Jim.
The mail is delivered by Andy every day.
That book was written by Wilde.

5. The object in the active becomes the subject in
the passive.
The subject of the active is expressed as by+
agent.
The active verb becomes be+ past participle
(3rd form of the verb)
To be forms (is, am, are, was, were, be, been,
being) are used.

6. Se utiliza para mostrar interés por la persona o
cosa que es objeto de una acción, en lugar de la
persona o cosa que realiza dicha acción.
Ejemplos:
La voz pasiva es utilizada frecuentemente.
La casa fue construida en 1654.

7. La estructura de la voz pasiva es muy sencilla:
Sujeto + verbo auxiliar (be) + verbo principal (en
pasado participio).
Ejemplos:
The speech is written for the president.
We are not a done in here.
La voz pasiva la utilizaremos cuando:
Queramos hacer mas importante el objeto activo.
No conocemos el sujeto activo.

8. Para transformar una oración activa a pasiva
tenemos en cuenta las siguientes reglas:
El objeto de la oración activa pasa a ser el
sujeto de la pasiva.
El verbo principal se sustituye por el auxiliar "to
be", en su mismo tiempo, junto al verbo principal
en participio.
El sujeto de la oración principal pasa a ser
complemento agente de la pasiva.
Si hacemos mención en la oración al sujeto que
realiza la acción (sujeto agente), éste irá
normalmente introducido por la preposición "by"

9. Ejemplos de la voz pasiva con la preposición “by"
encontraremos:
 Mark Twain wrote the book.
 The room will be cleaned by the housekeeper.

10. Es un tipo de voz gramatical por medio de la
cual se conjuga el verbo de modo tal que el sujeto
realice, ejecute o controle la acción del verbo, es
decir, sea sujeto agente.
Ejemplo:
El perro mordió al cartero.
Comió todas las galletas.
