¿Por qué hay tanto smog en algunas ciudades?
Introducción:
Normalmente el aire en contacto con la superficie terrestre se calienta y comienza a subir y, a
medida que se aleja de la superficie terrestre,se enfría. Dependiendo de la geografía y de las
condicionesmeteorológicas,unacapade aire friopuede quedaratrapadacerca de la superficie
por una capa de aire caliente. Este fenómeno se conoce como inversión térmica. En estas
condiciones, el aire frio que esta “atrapado” acumula las partículas y gases contaminantes
provenientesde losautos,de laquemade leña,basuray chimeneasindustriales.Estasituación
ocurre, en particular, en áreas que geográficamente están encerradas por montañas o que se
ubican a un nivel geográfico más bajo que sus alrededores.
Materiales:
Dos vasos de precipitación grandes.
Dos fundas plásticas pequeñas.
Colorante vegetal o acuarela.
Agua.
Hielo.
Mechero.
Alfiler.
Como lo haces:
1. Piensaen losiguiente y luegoplanteaun hipótesis
¿Cuál tipode aire sube:aire caliente o aire frio? ¿Por qué?
El aire caliente,porque esmenosdensoque el aire frío,porloque el aire caliente sube
y el aire frío desciende.
2. 2. Coloca a coloca agua fría en un vaso. Ésta representael “aire frío”.
3. En el otro vaso vierte agua caliente. Ésta representael “aire caliente”.
4. En una de las fundas de plásticopequeñaspon agua caliente con colorante vegetal y
haz lo mismo enla otra, pero con agua fría.
5. Ubica la funda que tiene agua caliente en el vaso de agua fría (figuraa), y la funda
que tiene agua fría enel vaso de agua caliente (figurab).
3. 6. Explica losfenómenosque ocurren. Relaciónaloscon la contaminación atmosférica.
Al realizareste experimentose pudoobservar,que al ponerenel aguacaliente
la funda de agua fría con colorante, salió vapor del vaso.
Este experimentoconrelaciónala contaminaciónatmosféricase da porque se
puede observar claramente que en áreas geográficamente cerradas por
montañasel aire friopuede quedaratrapadocomose pudoobservarenel vaso.
Coneste experimentopudecomprenderel conceptodelfenómenode inversión
térmica que acurre en nuestro ambiente.
Una inversióntérmicapuede llevaraque la contaminaciónaérea,comoelsmog,
quede atrapada cerca del suelo, con efectos nocivos para la salud.
Para crear condiciones atmosféricas normales
a) Llena3/4 del vasocon agua fría y pon un poco de hielo.
b) Calientael aguaenel mechero,llenalamitadde unafundacon el agua caliente yagregaun
par de gotitasde colorante.Cierralafunday asegúrate que nohayaaire adentro.
c) Saca el hielodel aguafría y ubicaadentrodel vasola fundacon agua caliente concolorante.
4. d) Sinagitar el agua,haz un orificioenlafundaconel alfileryobservala interaccióndel agua
caliente conel aguafría.
Para crear una inversión térmica:
a) Calientabastante aguapara llenar3/4 del otrovaso.
b) Colocaagua con hieloenunafuente yretíralodel aguafría. Luego,agrega unasgotitas
de colorante.
Llenala mitadde una fundaplásticaconel agua fría.
C) Ponla fundade agua fría con colorante enel jarro de agua caliente.
d) Sinagitar el agua,realizaunorificioenlafundacon el alfileryobservalainteraccióndel
agua fría con el agua caliente.
5. Resultados y Observaciones
Al introducirenel agua caliente,lafundacon el colorante y el agua fría, sale vaporque
se pudo observar claramente.
El colorante en el agua caliente se mezcla con el agua más rápidamente.
El colorante en el agua fría se demora en mezclarse con el agua.
Con este experimento se puede demostrar como el aire de nuestro ambiente se va
contaminando con el humo que hay.
Conclusiones
Al realizareste experimento podemosdarnoscuentade lacontaminaciónque existeen
nuestra atmosfera.
La contaminación atmosférica aumenta cuando existe inversión térmica.
La inversión térmica puede provocar graves daños en nuestra salud debido a la
contaminación.
Con este experimento podemos darnos cuenta lo que le estamos haciendo a nuestro
planeta contaminando nuestro aire que es el que respiramos cada día y si no lo
cuidamos apropiadamente se podría contaminar totalmente.
