2. “Importante método diagnóstico en neoplasias uroteliales.”
UTILIDAD:
•Screening en pacientes de alto riesgo ( fumadores).
•Evaluación de pacientes sintomáticos (hematuria)
•Seguimiento de pacientes con enfermedad tratada.

CONCLUSION:
Screening a high-risk group with a history of smoking of > or =40 pack-years showed a
significant proportion (3.3%) with malignancy. In this series the most efficient
screening tool was the combination of UroVysion, cytology and urinary dipstick testing.
Of special scientific interest will be the follow-up of those patients with a possible pre-
cancerous lesion.

• Conclusion: The present study emphasizes that nuclear features
such as high N/C ratio, hyperchromasia and chromatin
abnormalities are particularly useful for assessing the malignant
atypical cells. Other cytological features such as comet cells and
cells with India ink nuclei are also helpful for diagnosis but have
limited value because they are less frequently seen.
