3. Introduction
● El término “química orgánica" fue introducido en 1807 por
Jöns Jacob Berzelius, para estudiar los compuestos
derivados de recursos naturales. Se creía que los
compuestos relacionados con la vida poseían una “fuerza
vital” que les hacía distintos a los compuestos
inorgánicos, además se consideraba imposible la
preparación en el laboratorio de un compuesto orgánico,
lo cual se había logrado con compuestos inorgánicos.
5. La Química orgánica es la rama de la química
que estudia todos aquellos compuestos que
contienen carbono, con excepción de los
óxidos y de los carbonatos.

que se caracterizan por tener un átomo o grupo
atómico definido (grupo funcional) que le
confiere a la molécula sus propiedades
características.

Los isómeros son compuestos que tienen la misma fórmula
molecular o condensada, pero poseen una estructura
diferente y propiedades fisicoquímicas distintas.
La isomería se presenta en los compuestos orgánicos debido a la
concatenación del átomo de carbono, provocando arreglos
estructurales distintos. En la vida diaria la importancia de la
isomería se ve reflejada en la variedad de compuestos y
gracias a ello se cuenta con diversas formas, texturas,
colores, etc. de materia orgánica que nos rodea.

27. ● Isomería geométrica: es característica de aquellas sustancias
que presentan un doble enlace carbono-carbono, y es debida
a que no es posible la libre rotación alrededor del eje del
doble enlace. Asimismo, es preciso que los sustituyentes
unidos a cada uno de los átomos de carbono implicados en el
doble enlace sean distintos.

32. ● Isomería óptica: son isómeros que poseen idénticas
propiedades tanto físicas como químicas, diferenciándose
únicamente en el distinto comportamiento frente a la luz
polarizada. Un isómero desvía el plano de polarización de la
luz hacia la derecha (isómero dextro o (+)) y el otro hacia la
izquierda (isómero levo o (-)). Se da en moléculas con átomos
de carbono asimétricos, es decir, unidos a cuatro
sustituyentes distintos.

36. ● Isomería óptica: los enantiómeros que son imágenes
especulares entre sí. Tienen igual propiedades químicas pero
diferente actividad óptica.

37. ● Isomería óptica: dos enantiómeros tienen propiedades físicas
y químicas prácticamente idénticas, sólo difieren en su
actividad como sustratos enzimáticos y en su actividad óptica.

38. Isomería óptica: Configuraciones R y S
● Una nomenclatura más precisa para los compuestos que presentan átomos de carbono
asimétricos es la que utiliza los símbolos “R” y “S”.
● Se asignarán prioridades a los sustituyentes del carbono asimétrico empleando las mismas
reglas de secuencia de Cahn, Ingold y Prelog utilizadas para especificar la geometría E y Z de
alquenos.
● Según esta nomenclatura, hay que numerar del 1 al 4 los sustituyentes del carbono
asimétrico, en orden decreciente de masa atómica, es decir, el número 1 se asigna al
sustituyente de mayor masa atómica y el número 4 al de menor masa atómica.
● A continuación, se sitúa el sustituyente numerado como 4 (el de menor prioridad) en la
posición más lejana del observador y se recorren los otros tres sustituyentes del 1 al 3. Si el
recorrido se efectúa en sentido horario, al carbono asimétrico se le asigna configuración “R”.
Si el recorrido es contrario al movimiento de las agujas del reloj, al carbono asimétrico se le
asigna la configuración “S”.

conformaciones a los diferentes arreglos de átomos que
resultan de rotar un enlace simple C-C. Debido a la libre
rotación del enlace simple, se interconvierten. No pueden
aislarse.
