In general, only about 20 percent of the zinc in our diet is actually absorbed. Meat such as beef is a readily available source of zinc. One study found that the bioavailability of zinc from beef was about four times greater than that from a high-fiber breakfast cereal when consumed by healthy adults. In addition, the presence of meat at a meal can increase the absorption of zinc from other foods.
