Can we compare the results obtained in the positive CVOTs for SGLT-2is (empagliflozin and canagliflozin) with the results obtained in the positive GLP-1RA CVOTs (liraglutide and semaglutide)?
When we look into the component for the primary endpoints there is heterogeneity in both the direction and magnitude of the treatment effect within the 4 trial, it is however, extremely important to remember all the limitations in directly comparing individual trials.
Draft Consensus recommendation: the overall diabetes regimen should be based on patient preference and clinical characteristics.Consensus recommendation: access, treatment cost, and insurance coverage should all be considered when selecting antihyperglycemic medications.
Antihyperglycemic therapy in type 2 diabetes: general recommendations. *If patient does not tolerate or has contraindications to metformin, consider agents from another class in Table 8.1. #GLP-1 receptor agonists and DPP-4 inhibitors should not be prescribed in combination. If a patient with ASCVD is not yet on an agent with evidence of cardiovascular risk reduction, consider adding.
