17 . Experimenten el eka-tvaṁ
17. EXPERIENCE EKATHWAM
comencé a hablar!
YESTERDAY andthe day before, I spoke about the disciplinary life.that youshouldlead. I was a harsh taskmaster then. But, today, I
shall be soft andMy words will be like the Himalayan breeze, cool andinvigorating. That harshness had a reason, for there can be no
effect without a cause. This coolness andthat warmthare bothparts ofthe same Person and you cannot accept the one and reject the
other. Goodandbad, right andwrong, are two sides of the same coin.As for Me,My natureis distinct; I do not identify with anything.
Those who have neitherauthoritynoradeptness havetohear, study, analyze andjudge. Authorityis theright of the Atma alone. It is the
Atma that can command. For Me, the purityof your feelingis important, not the depth of your scholarship. That is why I was harsh
yesterday andthe day before to compel youtoexamine yourfeelings andremove the blemishes. Today, I assure you, I shall no t be so
harsh. In fact, youmayhave noticed, I usedthe word, Premaswaruupulaara (Embodiments of Divine Love), in the beginning when I
began to speak!
Usually, in human calculations, value is attachedonlytosharpness of intellect; but that is incomplete.Emotional clarity is also important.
Youpurchase an article froma shop, not merelybecause it serves a useful purpose but also because it is beautiful andattractive; that is to
say, it appeals tothe intellect andthe emotions. Bhaava(innate disposition) gives beautyor as theysay in Telugu, Andham. That is why I
often say, Andham is Anandam (beauty is Bliss); you cannot have one without the other
Earn the experience of Unitythe hard way
Andham andAnandam, beauty andtruth, harmonyandecstasyare foundin Ekathwam (Oneness), the discovery andexperience ofUnity.
Unity must be as symbolizedby the experience ofthe unity ofmudandgold; the sight, the seen and. the seer, that is, the search and the
success. Ramakrishna promptedthis yearning, promoted this agonyin Vivekananda andthe others who came to him. Try with all your
strength; test with all your doubt, earn it the hard way and enjoy the fruit of your exertions: that was the teaching he gave .
simplemente pasarlo, diciendo: "¡Toma!"
The music of all thetransmitters of the worldis everywhere; if youcare to listen, strive toprocure a radio receiver, learnthe wave-length
of the station youneedtohearandswitch onandtunein. The key to liberation has to be cast and forged and filed and fitted by each
aspirant. It cannot be gibedin one moment by one word. Ramakrishna himself sought forit through years of inexplicable anguish; how-
then can we short-circuit theprocess foranother? Noonecan just pass it on, saying, "Take!"Theflower has to yieldthe fruit andthefruit
has to grow, ripen and fall.
Jealousy andanger are the twins born ofthe Mother Ahamkar (self-conceit). Destroythe twins, andtake the kaaram (meaningin Telugu,
"the hot taste") ofthe Ahamkaaram andkeepit simplyas Aham (1),so that youcanget the thrill of 'Aham Brahmaasmi"(I am Brahman)
with that instrument. That is thestage tobe reached, the height to be scaled. The kaaram in the Aham is like the single seed which if
allowedto sprout, multiplies a ' thousand-foldandproduces many bags of seed. It has tobe crushedin the very first instance. Then the
analysis of the Aham starts andends in theconclusion: '"Ayam Atma-Brahma,"---this Aham is theAtma, which is Brahma. The two: That
andThis, ThathandThwam, are identifiedandThis is foundtobe only That, when Thaththwam asi (Thou art That) is realised. Well.
What is the thingcalled Thath, theThat? What is Brahmam in other words ? The fourth Mahaavaakya declares: Prajnaanam---the
Highest Wisdom---Unity, One.
Las verdades reveladas por los cuatro mahāvākya-s
Truths revealed by the four Mahaavaakyas
All these Mahaavaakyas (Sacredstatements of Supreme Truth) relate tothe Gloryof theOne, whichis a veritable Ocean of Grace. The
vapor risingfrom It is "Prajnaanam Brahma"', thecloudis '"Ayam AathmaBrahma ;" the shower of rain, "Thaththwam asi;"the river is
"Aham Brahmaasmi."
realmente.
Prajnaanam Brahma is symbolisedby AndapindaLingam---thevisionof theoneentityin all themanifoldentities, theexpansion of the
individual into theuniversal, theenlargement ofthe I into thevastness of the "He and We." 'When you knock at another's do or and a
voice from inside accosts youwiththe question, "Whois it?" youautomaticallyanswer, "It is I." T hat does not satisfy thequestioner. So,
another question elicitingfurtherinformationfollows. Thenonly will the door open. Thedoor ofLiberationcan also open only to those
who can explain who the "I" truly is.
¡Poco a poco
This reveals to the Jivi (individual soul), "Iam in the Light." The second Mahaavaakya, Ayam AtmaBrahma, tells him,"The Light is in
Me." Slowly the truth dawns on the mind! The Light, whichI imaginedas envelopingme, the Prajnaanam whichI identifiedas the basis
of all this appearance, that illuminationis in me, too.My innermost-truth is also that Prajnaanam, that Light. This is represented by
Sadhaashiva Lingam (the vision of the Eternal Shiva).
4. La experiencia personal es el mejor maestro
Personal experience is the best te acher
The Sadhak sees in his Sadhana that Light which dispels the darkness ofages. He is toldthat He is that Light and nothing else, "Thath
thwam asi, "Thouart that."He then becomes immune to spasms of ignorance which make him forget his nature. Just as a beginner
learningthe violinlapses easily into grindingout distressingsounds from the strings, the Sadhak also grinds out discordant notes, of
discontent andgrief. When pain becomes unbearable, a personfaints and loses consciousness; that is a consolation. Beyond a certain
limit, you are not to suffer pain. Similarly, when this identity feeling is established, no more activity is possible. One becomes
"unconscious"of the world, or rather, one passes beyondthe realms ofconsciousness--un-, subandeven super-;the river has reachedthe
sea. Thath-thwam-asi is symbolised by the Jnaana Lingam (the vision of enlightenment).
propio llamado interior.
Aham Brahmaasmi, thelast of theMahaavaakyas, is associatedwith the Atma-Lingam. The fourteen higher worlds and the fourteen
lower worlds cannot be shown anddemonstratedin models; theyare symbolic of the levels of consciousness in the geography of the
spirit andin the journeyof the mindtowards the Goal. There areno books that can teach you the topography; the journey is the best
teacher, each step makingthe next one easier.Radha, Meera,Sakkubai, Surdas, Ramakrishna---all followed the guidance of their own
inner call.
Divinidad.
The angam (body)is the Sangam (meetingpoint) wherespirit andmattermeet; the jangam, the movingphantasmagoria wherespirit and
mattermeet,is in Sangam. From this Sangam, onehas toevoke the Lingam (Divinityin its aforesaidfour forms, one after theother. The
Lingam is just a sign: a sign of endeavor,a sign of success. For example, the AndapindaLingam signifies the egg-shapeduniverse, which
5. is howit is, even accordingto experts in science. The outer coveris the anda andtheinner rasa or matter is the pinda. They are both
dependent, one onthe other. Youare all basically theAndapinda, with the outershell of materialism andthe innercoreof Divinity. The
body is a vessel to contain the Chaitanya or effulgence of Divinity.
El Ātma liṅgam es la última fase
Atma lingam is the ultimate phase
Empaparse.
The sentiment,"Aham Brahmaasmi"explicit in the Mahaavaakya, gives a sense of kinship; as when this Linga, confrontedby that Linga
proceeds to aalingana(embracing). That sense of belonginghas great psychological value: when youheara childcry andfindonenquiry
that it is your child, youget farmore anxious than whenyouare toldit is another's child. The attachment will lead to merging (for the
Andapinda Lingam is this body, this nature which we see) andimbibingandbuildinginto our consciousness. EvenGod, when He comes
with human body or as materialized from, is Andapindam, whether it is Maha Vishnu, Shiva, Rama, Krishna or Sathya Sai Baba.
Jnaanalingam symbolises the jnaanathat youare Sarvabhuutha (the totalityofall beings) andthe Sarvabhuuthais in you. The jnaanam
(divine wisdom) itself is Brahmam;Jnaana, is not a quality ofBrahmam---it is Brahmam itself, forBrahmam has noquality. TheJnaani
(the liberatedperson), though in the world, has the Inner Vision, whichmakes him fall away fromthe twigas the driedleaf which has no
more needof attachment.Aathmalingam (the visionof formof the Self), the ultimate phase, is the stage of gold, when the names and
forms of goldjewels have been subsumed. Waterfreezes into ice; Atma freezes intothe individual. The Aathmalingam is just the pot that
contains seawater, immersed in the self-same sea.
"Te voy a curar lentamente y con paciencia"
"I shall cure you slowly and patiently"
Both are identical, onlythe name andtheformare different. Youcan realise your truth by following the path, which will lead to that
knowledge. Only, youmust be preparedforthe discipline andthe travail. When I give you a drug, you must take it in the prescribed
6. dosage and adhere strictly to the regimen of food, sleep and exercise I recommend. Of course, the anxiety to get cured quickly is
commendable; but there is a time-table for all this. Moderation is productive of better results than excess.
Women knowthat when they add water in order to reduce the taste of excess salt, they have to add to the cooked dish necessary
quantities of other ingredients tooin ordertomake it tasty. In thesame way, I have toreduce the excessiveattachment you have for the
things of' theworldandwhen I do that, I have to correct by various other methods also. I shall cure you, slowly andpatiently; the more
slowly I do it, the more lastingit will be. I shall reveal to youthe Aathmalingam without fail. Yes, great days are coming; let not your
sloth standacross anddeprive youof the chance. Whenyoulisten to Mystory, you forget the story of the world and live only in My
story, until there is no separate story for you to relate or live. Well, to make you story -less is the scheme of My story.
elegante; ānandam es su aliento, su fuerza motriz, su porte, su expresión interna y externa;
Prashanthi Nilayam, 20-10-1961
Sadhaashivalingam indicates theperson who is everof the Swarupa(form) of Shiva. Here and everywhere, night and day, in joy and
grief, he is Shivam: happy, auspicious, graceful; Anandam is his breath,his motive force, his demeanor, his inner and outer expression;
Sadhaaalways andfor ever,Shivam---auspicious. There is no roomhere forcontroversyor intellectual rivalryandcompetition, like the
ones indulged in by Pundits. and scholars, misusing the valuable paper manufactured by the mills of this country. Install
Sadhaashivalingam in the consciousness and all things will be revealed to you, step by step, by the Grace of the Divine Indweller.
Prashanti Nilayam , 20-10-1961
Do you know the real significance ofthe story of Anasuya, the story of how she humbled the Gods, Brahma,
Shiva and Vishnu? (An-asuya means, "Envy-less”. It is that if you have no end, you get such unshakable
peace, that no Power can overwhelm you. - Sathya Sai Baba
