El Bhāgavata es para todos los
tiempos, para la elevación de las
emociones humanas en todos los
climas y lugares.
Escuchando tales exposiciones no deben terminar solo
52. Griefand God
MANY things have happenedhere since3-30 p.m.when youall gathered. Theprogramme
began with the Burra Katha (folk-tale) onPaarvathi kalyaanam (marriage)by the girl students of
the Saadhuvamma High School andit endedwith the kalyaanam ofKrishna, describedby
Veerabhadra Shaasthry. Inthe middle, Ganapathi Shaasthrytoldyouof the origin andmeaning
of the Sanaathana(ancient) social order,as laiddown in the Vedhas andtheShaasthras. Out of
the manyplausible interpretations ofthe Shaasthras, youare pronetoattachyourselves to the
one that pleases your own prejudices; so it is essential tohearsuch Pandiths who knowthe
authentic meaningandwho will not deviate fromit in order tomake theexpositionpopular.
Listeningtosuch talks shouldnot endwith shravanam (listening) only; followit up with
mananam (rumination, digestion).
‘Agastya’ se lo bebió; Agastya ahora es una pequeña estrella en el ancho cielo;
So also, with the talk onthe Bhaagavatha, cogitate overit withinthe four walls of your puuja
room, sittingbeforethe shrine andofferingritual worship. 'Do not treat the Bhaagavatha as a
chapterof ancient. "history; youcan experience thethrill now, today, for ever. The Bhaagavatha
is for all time, for the elevationof human emotions in all climes andplaces. The Vedhas with
their meaningful rites andtheirdeeplysignificant philosophyare valuable for all time.Once,
someone decidedto worship the greatest. He fixedupon 'theearth, but the sea erodes the earth;
the sea too is not so great sinceSage Agasthya drank it up; Agasthya is nowa tinystarin the
broadsky; but the sky was just enough for one foot ofthe Thrivikramaformof the Lord; 'andthe
Lordis enshrinedin theheart of Bhaktha(devotee). So he concludedthat theBhaktha was the
greatest of them all!
Castes have no superiority orinferiority
Bhakthi (devotion)knows no caste; it saves all, ennobles all. Castes haveno superiority or
inferiorityaccordingtothe Vedhas.A sugar doll is all sugar. The hymn.of Purusha Suuktha
speaks of the four castes havingcome fromfour parts of His Body. The meaningis that all are
equally high born andequally important. The mouthcannot walk nor canthe feet talk. It is the
voice that is obeyedandthe armthat protects. Well, all thosewho felt (andfollowthefeeling)
that fightingis theirrighteous duty are Kshatriyas; all those who feel it their dutytostudy the
Vedhas andthe Shaasthras are Braahmins---not those who feel it as theirright!
Ayer hablé unas pocas palabras especialmente a los hombres. Hoy voy a
Yesterday, I spoke a fewwords specially tothe men. TodayI shall speaktothe women. Manyof
youbecome so desperate anddejectedthat youbemoanyour birthandwelcomedeath. This is
very wrong. Youcannot fleefrom your responsibility in themiddle of your allottedtask. It is a
sign of weakness andcowardice. Afterall, just thinkfora moment whetherthe richare happy,
the strongare happy, the highlyeducatedare happyor thecleverare happy. No one is happy you
will find. If youmust be happy, one of two things must happen. All your desires must be
fulfilled, or youshouldnot have any desire.Of these, thereductionof desire is theeasier path.
padre.
Become more steady in spiritual discipline
Take the troubles that come to youas tests andopportunities tolearnnon-attachment. It is the hot
summer that sends youtoair-conditioning. Grief sends youtoGod. Whena childdies, ask
yourself the question,"Is it for mysake that he was born?" He hadhis own destinytofulfil, his
own history to workout.Gauthama Buddha's fatherwas so overcomewith grief when hesawhis
son with a begging bowl in the street that he toldhimthus: "Everyoneof myancestors was a
4. King: what misfortune is this that a beggar was born in this line?" Buddha replied, "Everyone of
my ancestors hada beggar's bowl; I knowof no kingin my line."The fatherandthe sonwalked
different paths, travelledalongdivergent routes. The bloodof the sonwhen transfusedmay
prove fatal tothe father.
constante.
Another point: youshouldall become more steady andregular in your saadhana(spiritual
effort). Youmust curbthe propensitytoindulge in inane jabber andidle curiosity. Followthe
discipline laiddown for the Prashaanthi Nilayamandbecome examples forthe new-comers!
This applies tothe men also. Youwill have noticedthat I do not address youas "Bhakthulaara"
(dear devotees)at anytime. For,toget that name, bhaktha, youmust have dedication,
unwaveringfaith andsteady discipline.
honor.
Prashanti Nilayam, 26-11-1962
When the NirgunaNiraakaara (Attributeless andFormless) is available here andnowas Saguna
Saakaara (withAttributes andForm), youmust use everymoment to earn His Grace.
Youdo not realise your unique goodfortune. Inthe years to come, people will revere you, for
youhada chance that millions couldnot get; theywill worship your pictures in their shrines!
Live andlove in such a way that youmaydeservethat honour.

Sathya Sai Baba
For Naamasmarana, noexpense is involved;no materials are
needed; there is no special place or timeto be provided. No
qualification of scholarshipor caste or sex has to beproved.
When a bit of iron is rubbed to andfro ona slab of stone, heat is
generated;only, the rubbinghas to be vigorous andcontinuous.
When you do so at intervals and with poor pressure, the iron will
not get hot. So,too,in order to get sufficient heat to melt the soft
heart of the Lord, in order to get sufficient heat to melt the soft
heart of the Lord, rub thenameRaam Raam Raam Raam
vigorously and unintermittently. Then, the Lordwill shower His
Grace.
If you devote but two minutes anda half in the morning and
another two minutes and a half in the evening thelittle heart will
cool off twice a day andHis heart will not melt.
