46. Pūrnāhuti (ofrecimiento totaly final)
El Bhāgabata fue el tema del discurso de Kalluri Vīrabhadra Shāstry hoy;
y encantador.
46. Poornaahuthi
BHAAGAVATHA was the subject of the discourse by Kalluri Veerabhadra Shaastrytoday; but
do not think that it has norelevancytothe Vedhapurusha SapthaahaJnaanaYajna (Seven-day
Vedhic ritual of Sacrifice of Spiritual Wisdom for the Supreme Beingof Vedha); forthe
Bhaagavatha contains Vedhasaaram (esssenceof Vedha)itself. The Vedhaspeaks in hymnafter
hymn of the Gloryof God, known by various names as Indhra,Varuna, Mithra, etc. It is all
Upaasana---worshipfilledwith bhakthi, devotiontoGod, whom the Vedha itself declares as
One, "though endowedwith a variety ofNames." The Bhaagavatha is the Vedhasaara(the
essence of Vedha),made available foreasy assimilationby all. It is just a limbof the Vedhic
literature andas limbit is an inseparable part of theVedhic tradition. Thesame bloodflows in
this limbtoo; it makes the Vedhabeautiful andcharming.
Just as juveniles are shown pictures andmade tolearnnames ofthe objects which they represent,
the Bhaagavatha teaches the Akshara (Imperishable)through the Kshara (perishable). You
cannot attain the subtle without experiencingthegross, without theinstrumentality ofthe gross.
After risingtothe heights ofthe Chith(Awareness), with jada(dull witted) as the instrument,
youhave to also makethe jada so suffusedby Chaithanya (Supreme Consciousness) that the
difference does not persist! In dhyaana, the picture first felt has tobe transformedintothe
picture of the purifiedimagination, andthat again has tobe rarifiedintothe subtle abstract
principle only. Then onlycan the dhyeya orFormmeditatedon, be transcendedandthe highest
Vision of Universal beauty, wisdom andstrength obtained. The Bhaagavatha helps in this
spiritual education, takingthe student through all thelessons fromthe primarytothe postgraduate
levels.
Most of youalways by-pass thereal meaningof the legends, tales anddescriptions given in the
ancient scriptures. Brahma's lotus is not stalk that grows in mudandrises above the waters to
catch the rays ofthe sun andblossom, but themany petalledLotus of theHeart, each petal being
the direction in whicha particulartendencyattracts the individual. The Bull on which Shiva is
said to ride is not the animal calledby that name, but the symbol of Dharmaor Righteousness
which has the four legs, sathya, dharma, shaanthi andprema. Gopaala didnot graze cattle, but
protectedandfed jeevis (livingbeings) known also as 'Go'. In the study of the Vedha, youshould
look for the meaningthat satisfies the heart, andnot rest content if the meaningsatisfies the
head! A sentencemay be quite right grammatically, but maystill be sheer nonsense!
GanapathyShaasthry, for example, while describingthereasonwhy the earth fromant-hills is
recommendedfor thesacrificial mound, saidthat white ants aredeemedtohave powerful latent
skill, which is put at the service ofthe Gods, for theyonce ate up the cordof Vishnu's bow!
Look for the real meaningof Vedhas
When Vishnu's bowwas thus releasedfrom tension, its endhit Him under the chinandthe
4. impact removedHis Headandcarriedit aloft intothe sky! Now, if youtakethat storyas
applyingtoLordVishnuwho is also known as Naaraayana, thenit is somethingthat belittles the
Glory of God. But take it as applicable tothe all-powerful, all-embracingNaaraayana aspect of
the Godhead. Howcan we accept the explanationgivenforthe white ants eatingup the cord?
The reasongivenis that the Gods wantedtoprickthe bubble of Vishnu's pride. Now, howcan
Naaraayanabe accused of pride? Howcan the Gods conspire todepute white ants tomanoeuvre
in such a sly way to take off His head? No.The story obviouslyrefers toa minor God, a
Devatha, one amongthemany in theVedhic heaven, who bears the name Vishnu; that is all.
There is no needto besmirch thegrandeur ofNaaraayanaby identifyingthe minorGodVishnu
with the Chief of theGods. Prefer the meaningthat elevates andyouwill always be right.
Be proud of your ancestry
Youhave to trace your ancestryandbe proudof it.From ParamaatmaMoola (SuprmeSoul, the
Source), Prakrithi (Nature)descendedwith the emergence of maaya(illusion); andfromthe stuff
of that illusion, Aakaasha (Space); fromAakaasha, Vaayu (Wind); from VaayuAgni (fire); from
Agni, Jala (water)from Jala,Bhuumi (Each). By a combination ofthe five elements, this
tabernacle ofParamaatma (the Divine), that is you, was produced. Theentireladder has nowto
be climbedup in order to reachthe Paramaatma, the Originof all. Thereis a regular syllabus for
the promotionof thespiritual aspirant, which is given in that formin the Vedha andin an
elaborate storyform inBhaagavatha.
I will not accept it if yousay that youare an atheist withno faithin the Lord. Forwhat is the root
of that faith in yourself? Who are youthat youshouldbelieve yourself? No. Youbelieve,
yourself, because your Self is God. andyouhave an unshakable faithin God, deep down in you.
Faith in yourself andfaithin Godare identical; youtapthe strengthof theGodwithin when you
standat attentionagainst an enemy without. That is why there is a persistent whisper, withinto
use that strengthin the path ofMercy,Charity, Helpfulness.
Offer your bad qualities intoSacrificial Fire
Every one has togo fromhere when the provisions he has brought or securedhave been spent.
But by that time, attainthe purpose of all this botherof arriving, travelling, accumulatingand
spending: the realisationof supreme happiness by endingthis circle of birthanddeath.
Change your habits andconduct for thebetterfrom this verymoment. That is themeasure of
your sincerity. Have faithandsteadfastness. I cannot be deceivedby mere playacting. Foldingof
arms andsheddingtears will not make Me take youas a bhakta. Ifyoutry devious paths
pretendingto be what yougenuinelyare not, the punishment will be greater in ordertocure you
of that trait also.
Tomorrow, between eight andnine in themorningthe Poornaahuthi orthe ValedictoryOffering
in the SacredFire will take place. That is a precious moment in every yajna;the full andfinal
offeringis consideredthe fulfilment of theritual. But here, youmust keepone fact in mind. I am
not gettingthis yajnadone; I am He who receives the offerings of yajna.
I observe many ofyouare gettingactive toprocurefromBangaloreor Ananthapur, in time for
the Poornaahuthi, articles like sandalwood, gold, precious stones, etc. tobe put intothe
Sacrificial Fire when the final Aahuthi is made. I am not permitting anybody todo that. It is easy
to throwaway a fewrupees andpurchase a fewmaterial objects fromsome shopandbringthem
here andthrowthemintothe fireandgo about sayingthat youhave donea great bigact of
sacrifice. I am goingto set youa more difficult task; youcannot escape by doingthe easything.
I want that youshouldall, when the Poornaahuthi is offeredintothe fire, standup and
reverentiallyofferinto thesame fireeveryone of thedhurgunas (badqualities) that youhave---
the faults, the failings, the temptations, the transgressions.Search forthese today, unearth them
from their hidden places, bringthemwith youhere tomorrow, nicelypacked, andwith one final
heave of mental exertion, throwthemin when theflames of Poornaahuthi rise aloft. That is the
share youhave tosecure in this yajna. That, nothingmore; andnothingless.
Prashanti Nilayam, 10/07/1962

given youa clear pictureof the gloryandsplendour of Vedhamaatha(Vedhic Mother).which is
the real formof BhaarathaMaatha(Motherland). I shall tell themjust one thing: when theyhave
