2. 43. Ghee and sandal
DAILY youare gettingthe "Essence of Divinity"from these scholars, who havecome tothis
little village hidden behindthehills andforests; they aregivingyoumedicine to reduce your
fever andrestore youtohealth. This stream of amritha (nectar ofimmortality) is comingtoyou
because of your fortune, earned by goodness, andgooddeeds. Of course, it is interestingtohear
from them speeches on subjects containedin the books whichthese Pandiths havestudied; but it
is much more interestinganduseful to hear what theyhave themselves experiencedandpractised
on the basis of what theyhave studied. I tell youonlywhat they havealready said, but youlike it
nevertheless, probably because I trytomake it simplertosuit your measure ofunderstanding,
which I happen to knowmore than they; they do not knowyouas well as I do, or as longas I do.
There are,I know, manyeven in this gatheringwho whisper amongtheirown group that this
Homa (offeringoblations togods into theconsecratedfire)with fine cow's ghee andcostly
sandalwoodchips is a big waste. But if youalways dwell in the realm ofaccounts, ofplus and
minus, howcan youever get thejoy ofrealisinga wish that is unsatisfiable by meremoney?
These people struggle for ghee andfor sandal fuel; not forthe more precious joy ofthe
performance ofan ancient rite.
madera. Ustedes ganan incalculable alegría.
The questioners themselves have eatenbags of rice anddrunk pots andpots of gheesince birth.
Let me ask themwhether theyhave hada single day of happiness or whethertheyhave given joy
at least to theirkithandkin. This yajna(Vedhicritual of sacrifice)gives great joytoso many; I
have not gone to anyone forfunds for this; I andMypeople areverydelightedby this
celebration! What have others todo in this matter?Theyare concentratingon material utility. I
want youto concentrate on spiritual significance. They struggle for a littleghee; theycrave fora
little fuel. Youget incalculable joy.
Yajna is correlated with human aspirations
The yajnahas a deepermeaning, the meaningthat symbols have, the meaningthat is really
valuable for human progress. Every rite is a symbolicact. Yajnais correlatedat every step with
human aspirations and saadhana. It is kept in touchwith human lifeandaspirations in its
minutest detail. Butteris the product ofthe churningof the emotions, impulses, impressions and
instincts of man; the purest andthemost authentic essence ofthe divinein man. That butter,
when it is still more clarified, becomes ghee; it is that which is offeredtothe Gods.
Ustedes no deben
Youmay ask howit reaches theGods. Well, the Vedhaitself is theauthority for that belief. You
cannot demandanyother; for it will be as foolish as askingthe. eye toprove by some authority
unconnectedwith theeye, the validityof what it has seen. Howcan the eargive some other
authority toprovethe genuineness of thesoundwhich it alone canhear? The eye is its own
authority, the ear is its own pramaana (testimony). The Vedhawhich has probedinto thescience
of propitiatingthe Gods says that the Sacrificial Fire conveys thesubtler aspects of the offerings.
Andthe Vedha is its own testimony.
de la sociedad. También, Bṛhaspati (maestro espiritual de los dioses celestes;
Strive to secure Grace, notanylesser' fruit
Indhra (Lordof celestial gods) is the presidingDeityofthe Handandthe Indhrayajna confers
the communion ofhumanlabour; the collective .co-operationof humanindustryfor the progress
of the individual andof society. Also,Brihaspathi (Spiritual teacher ofcelestial gods) is the
Deity of the Intellect andtheyajna associatedwith his name establishes cordialityandcoordination.
The ChandraYajna (Sacrifice for Moon) similarlytends to developthe harmonyof
hearts andtheAadhithya Yajna (Sacrifice for Sun) the promotionof sameness ofvisionamong
all, for the Sun is the. Deitypresidingover the Eye. Every yajnahas a great unseen influence on
human affairs, for these Manthras (sacredformulas) are potent sounds, chargedwith subtle
mysteries.
No
salvo.
Always concentrateon thelastingfruit; theuniversal, thespiritual. Do not pursue mean
objectives; utilise the mindtofollowthe Planof theLordto re-establish Dharmain the world.
What can youplanwith your paltry intelligence? Therewas a man once who laughedat Godfor
givingthe majestic banyan treea tinymolecularseedandconferredon the ash gourda gigantic
uncouth fruit. "Nosense ofproportion,"he said. However, he hadto sleeponce under the shade
of a banyan treeandwhen he woke up afteran hour or so, hesawa large quantity ofseeds that
hadfallen on his body. If onlythe banyantree hadseeds in proportiontoits size, a single seed
fallingfrom that height wouldhave killedthe critic in notime! Therefore, hethankedGodfor his
poor sense of logic andmovedaway perfectlysafe.
Take everythingas it comes; cultivate contentment;do not multiplyyour wants andfoster greed
anddespair. Youtake offyourwarm clothingwhen youstart feelingwarm yourself. Thecoat of
desire has to be taken off when thewarmth of bhakthi increases.Strive to secureGrace, do not
strive to secure any lesser fruit.
Faith can compel the Lord tomanifestHimself
There was a thief who listenedquite accidentallytothe recital orthe charms ofKrishna during
childhood; he stoppedfora moment, but couldnot pull himself away. He heardthe description
of the ornaments hewore andgot a great desire torobthoseprecious treasures, tie askedthe
Pandith where exactlyKrishnawouldbe tendingthe cows aloneor with just his elder brotheror
with handful of comrades. ThePandith toldhimrather curtly, "InBrindaavan, onthe Yamuna
bank."
PlanningtocatchKrishna aloneanddeprive himof the ornaments,he hurriedoff to Brindaavan.
Sure enough, he met theBoy alone next morningat the headof his herdof cows, but howcould
he take off theornaments fromthat Loveliness? He was afraidthat theremoval of evenone
ornament wouldreduce the lustre andhis heardidnot allowhim todo that. He lookedon for
hour, lost in ecstasy, till Krishnahimselfaskedhim, but he was too ashamedto mentionit.
Krishna knewit however. He gave himall thejewels he wore. The thiefwas overcomewith
shame andjoy; he fell at theBoy's Feet, but when herose, Krishna was not tobe seen.
"No hace
He came to his village andconsultedthe Pandith. "Are these the jewels of Krishna that you
extolledthe other day?I went toBrindhaavanandHe gave themtome."Needless toadd, the
Pandith fell at robber's feet. Faith canwork wonders, it cancompel the Lordtomanifest Himself
andgive youwhat youbelieve he will give.
The Rithwiks (priests) andPandiths (Vedhic scholars)pressedMe with therequest that I should
agree to theirproposal to havesome programme whichtheycalled ThribhuvanaVijayam
(conquest of three worlds). That is a sign of their enthusiasmandtheir faith. Theywish that I
shouldagree to give themaudience as Seshasaayee (Vishnulyingon the serpant with one
thousandheads formingthecouch), usingthe Sesha paryanka (serpant-likecouch) that has been
brought by a devotee fromBombay; it seems they, like therishis mentionedin the Bhaagavatha,
will represent toMe thenthe sadconditionofthe Shaasthras (scriptures)they study andpractise,
includingthe Motherof all Shaasthras, theVedha. Whenthis idea was first placedbeforeMe,
some one objectedon thegroundthat I was askedto give darshan(audience) "like"Mahaa
Vishnu. He did not like the idea of "like." I have also anobjection against "acting" in a "drama."
función y el sin-rol. En lo que se refiere al yajña, les daré el darśana (darshan;
seguros.
Prashanti Nilayam, 04/10/1962.
But I was so movedby the earnestness of their request that I agreed. Really speaking, this
Avathaar is itself actinga part. It is 'puttingon' a functionand'assuming' a role, by the Functionless
andthe Role-less. As far as theyajnais concerned, I shall give youthedarshanofthe Vedha
swaruupa (Vedha personified) before youdisperse. Be assuredof that.
Prashaanthi Nilayam, 4-10-1962.
