Results of the global survey conducted by Allegro 234 to chose the coolest brands and understand the gaps with our organizations
3. Resumen ejecutivo
1130730_C&GBS_Results
• Los grandes puntos del “2013 Coolest & Gaps
Branding Survey”
online: Google, Amazon, Twitter y Zappos
• The major points of the “2013 Coolest & Gaps
Branding Survey”
– The first five brands mentioned spontaneously are:
Apple, Nike, Coca-Cola, Google and BMW
– Apple is the brand most often mentioned in general,
by country and by economic sector where those who
responded work
– Among the 28 brands, four of them only have an
online presence: Google, Amazon, Twitter and Zappos
– Possibly due to the high participation of people in
Spanish, two of its brands are in the Top 15: Zara and
Loewe
– Luxury is losing its presence among the cool brands;
referential status is achieved in other ways
– Despite being cool brands, people accept that they
have to be seen to work on sustainability and
corporate social responsibility issues
– The most pronounced gaps between the cool brands
and that of the places where people work are related
to what the brand promises, the communication and
the relationship between internal and external
audiences when they are living the experience
– Those who work in area related to branding are more
critical when they describe the experience that their
companies propose

7. Buscamos determinar dos cosas…
We sought to determine two things…
5130730_C&GBS_Results
Which is the coolest brand experience?
What and how is the difference between cool experiences
and those that promote the brand of the
company/institution where the daily work is carried out
by each of the participants?
8. Pero…
¿Qué es
una experiencia “cool”?
But…
What is a cool
experience?…
6130730_C&GBS_Results
Google o Amazon
Product brands and/or services can be
cool by virtue of seeing a necessity or
prevalence in a person’s life; they are
able to anticipate and surprise, and
continue to surprise, as do, for some
people, Google or Amazon
9. Reconocimiento espontáneo... Emocional
Unaided awareness... Emotional
7130730_C&GBS_Results
The most important aspect of this survey could possibly
be that the question of the coolest brand was left open;
there are no predefined brands to be voted on
The reason it continues to be done this way is because
the brand's unaided awareness speaks about the
experience one has with a determined brand, while
aided awareness makes the person remember aspects
related to the brand communication, especially those
associated with audio-visual advertising
emociones
El neo-córtex controla las emociones
• Es la parte racional del cerebro
• Controla memorización, concentración, auto-reflexión,
resolución de problemas
• proporciona recuerdos, conocimientos, habilidades y
experiencia acumulada
The limbic system takes precedence over the neocortex
• It controls basic functions
• It is related to the subconscious, memory, attention and
emotions
The neocortex controls emotions
• It is the rational part of the brain
• It controls memorization, concentration, self-reflection,
problem solving
• It forms memories, knowledge, skills and accumulated
experience
10. Experiencia de marca… Racional
Brand Experience… Rational
8130730_C&GBS_Results
publicidad, RRPP, Merchandising, etc.
• Once the person proposes their cool brand, the
following questions will add the rational aspects
that make the decision, decryption and way to live
the aforementioned experience. Subjects included
are:
– Brand, as a synthesis of what the company promises
– Communication, understood as advertising related
events, PR, merchandising, etc.
– Availability of product/service when the experience is
to be lived
– Tailor-made, in that the experience is unique and
personalised
– Interactivity, recognising the potential for dialogue
with the brand that online media offers, especially
web 2.0
– The place which offers the product/service as a real
space for interaction which breathes and transmits
the values of the brand
– Related services such as customer services, complaint
systems, guarantees, etc...
– Usefulness of the product/service as a way to assign
value to the offer that goes beyond price
– That both the product and the company that offers it
respect the environment (eco-friendly)
– Corporate social responsibility understood as visible
and obvious actions that make the company in its
relationship with society
• These subjects are then ranked by the person for
their company

The Coolest Brands | Understanding
14130730_C&GBS_Results
medio ambiente
• When observing the aforementioned brands, the
effect of a greater rationality in selection is
noticeable
– Sectors most associated with meeting modern and
urban needs (food, clothing, technology, mobility,
furniture and decoration)
– Low presence of luxury and or ‘aspirational’ brands
– Greater focus on brands with a global influence (it is
important to remember that each person was free to
write down the Brand of their choice)
• Faced with question on particular sectors
(technology, food and beverage and automotive)
the responses were consistent with the general
ranking
• For their part, when asked for a rational rating of
the different components of the experience, while
on the topic of admired brands, the result shows
realism and a high level of criticism
– A greater need to work on points of contact and
related services
– A negative perception of what is being communicated
and what is actually being done in terms of corporate
social responsibility and environmental care

Coolest Gaps
• The view of the brand experience for
companies where the respondents work,
continues to be critical with regard to the
experience offered by cool brands
• However, in those areas where the cool
brands were perceived as unsatisfactory,
the score is creeping up
• The most criticized point is the place where
the experience happens. In turn, this
together with what the brand actually
communicates show a large gap with
regard to the brands admired by each
participant

• Apple is still the most chosen brand
• In 2013, after five years, Nike takes the place of
Coca-Cola which goes down to third place
• It is interesting to see
– The change and exit of Starbucks from the top spot
with Nespresso bursting onto the scene
– The transition to real experiences (be they offline
or online), leaving behind the fantasy of Disney,
and opting for brands with BMW in front of Ferrari

20130730_C&GBS_Results
• The gaps between the cool brands and the
companies where the respondents work did not
highlight any noticeable changes
• Particularly, with regards to how the Brand is lived
internally, a steady decline in the results was
observed
– This could be down to the crisis
– Qualitatively, there are cases (through comments) in
which, what has been done in the last two years is
only a superficial change

• In technology there are few mentions of social
networks, however specific mobile apps are
starting to appear such as Instagram or Whatsapp
• Car brands are moving closer to consumer reality,
leaving aside brands such as Maserati or Ferrari,
BMW, MINI and Audi are gaining ground in first
place, followed by Ford, Volkswagen and Toyota
• In food, after the mentions of Coca-Cola, Red Bull
and Heineken, “corner shop” mentions stand out;
proximity is important for mass consumption.
Although sheepishly, big distribution brands are
beginning to appear
• As for travel, again the coolest thing is the
experience you have and not the prices. With
Vueling and Virgin, the trend of previous years was
reaffirmed
