The experience
that transmits a
brand helps to
reduce
uncertainty and
ensure attraction
by association
• Brand experience
– The experience that transmits a brand serves to reduce
uncertainty and ensure attraction by association. Therefore, the
experience goes beyond the brand itself
– Mainly includes the brand and its communication, but that
experience is relevant if it honestly becomes to live, and this is
demonstrated through the products, services, utility and the
value equation that people make regarding the relationship
“what they pay for what they get” (as expected and perceived
quality)
• Why this survey
– This survey considers these factors, and weighted and valued
each of them for the brand that creates the best brand
experience for each participant and in relation to the experience
offered by the company in which he/she works

Apple, Coca-Cola,
Virgin, Nike and
Starbucks
remain as coolest
brand
• Apple, Coca-Cola and Virgin maintained their 2008
position
• Nike and Starbucks improved their ranking
• New entrants, in the short list (all of them were voted
in 2008, however they were not within the top ten),
were:
– Amazon
– Google
– Corona
– Lonely Planet
– Marriot
• Possibly, due to the crisis, luxury goods and
aspirational brands were less voted (or not voted)

se mantienen
entre las marcas
más cool
• Apple, Coca-Cola y Virgin mantuvieron su posición
respecto a 2008

This year quality
and what the
brand tells you
are the two main
basis of the
experience
Este año, calidad
y lo que la marca
te dice son los
pilares
fundamentales
que hacen a la
experiencia
• Opening the coolest brand experiences in their
components, it is observed:
– The basis of this are in the overall quality of the experience,
what the brand tells you, the product and how useful it is
– It is expected and/or perceived that there is still room to improve
social responsibility and environmental respect
– Due to the crisis, price is an issue for the coolest brands (this
also explains why luxury brands are not part of the Top 10)

Companies

Las empresas
deberían crear
una experiencia
tan relevante
como el de las
marcas más cool
• The difference, that is observed between the coolest
brand experiences and the ones generated by the
companies where the participants work, shows:
– It is generally recognized that every company has to do
something to create an experience as relevant as the one from
the coolest brands
– The largest differences are in two areas:
– Responsibility
– Emotional meaning of the offer
– Value and its components are recognized as good as the ones
offering by the coolest brands

Apple has been
present in all
countries where
there were
participants
• Since this was an open question survey, the mention
of each coolest brand was spontaneously
– Apple and Coca-Cola have been present in all countries where
there were participants
– Apple with its iPod and iPhone products doubled the number of
mentions of Coca-Cola
• There is a strong presence of two trends
– Authenticity during the people-brand dialogue
– Referential status consolidates as a worldwide trend
• Communication is only part of the experience and this
can be observed from the absence of
telecommunications company or financial institutions,
whose budgets in mass communication are often
among the highest worldwide
telecomunicaciones o entidades financieras, cuyos
presupuestos en comunicación masiva están entre los
más altos en todo el mundo

19. 18100112_Allegro234_Coolest&Gaps
• Before talking about the differences, it should be noted that even in the coolest
brand, some aspects are deficient
– Responsibility: The basic experience is great, however, they are perceived as not enough attentive to
social responsibility and environmental issues
– Services: People is failing [not living the values that the brand promises]
– The price: It acknowledges that it is paid a “brand premium price”
• Going to the differences, the behavior between the coolest brand and the
experience of each company follows the same pattern
– The largest difference is in communication, issue which is considered weak and/or false in most cases
– People fail to decode the message
– The aspirational is difficult to achieve and produces frustration [it is perceived a lack of authenticity
and realism]
– The lower difference is in the value of the offer
• Internally, the brand experience is not lived properly [there is a plan but humble, or
there is no plan and only punctual events]
