29. Nayana, no ayana
29. Nayana, notayana
SHAASTRY spoke in detail of the importance of theUttharaayanaDay. Theday has an outer
andan inner significance, theinner havinggreater value for aspirants for spiritual progress. I do
not attach muchvalue tothe outermeaning: theSun takinga northwarddirectionfromtoday; the
six months fromnowon beingholierthanthe six that endedtodayandtherefore,as Shaastry
said, the Uttharaayanabettersuitedforsaadhana.Man's life must be a perpetual saadhana; any
day is a goodday for starting saadhana, whetherit falls in the Dakshinaayanaor Uttharaayana
(southwardor northwardmovements of Sun). Oneneednot wait for theSun to turn North. The
months andthe ayanas (Sun's passage towards north andsouthof equator)are all relatedto
Prakrithi (subjective world),andso they haveonlyrelative value.
Uttharaayana is a quality of the Nayana(the eye); it is matterof dhrishti--attitude, point of view.
It is not an Ayana(halfyearterm). When your dhrishti (sight)is on Brahman, it is
Uttharaayana;when it is on Prakrithi,it is Dakshinaayana. Whenyouhave developed
Utthamaguna (excellent quality), everyday is Uttharaayana whatever the Panchaanga
(almanac) may say.Whenyouhave fever, the tongue will be bitter; when youare healthy, you
knowall tastes. Thebitter tongue is the Dakshinaayana, the sweet tongue is the Uttharaayana.
To associate it withthe Tropics of Cancer andCapricornis just a convention.
Él cuidará y guiará incluso a éstos.
Avathaarcomes for the protection of all with good virtues
The astronomical Uttharaayanacomes to youwhether youstrive for it or not; it is part ofthe law
of nature. But forthe real Uttharaayana, youmust make efforts, tremendous efforts.Knowthat
there are only two entities: the substance andtheshadow, (orrather, onlyOne,andits
appearance, producedby ignorance),the Aatma andtheAn-aathma---the seer andthe seenthe
rope andthe snake. When this knowledge becomes part of the mental make-up, it liberates you
from maayaandyousee Kailaasha at the straight andhardbut the Goal is glorious; it is nothing
less than Illumination. It is when people forget this Goal that the Avathaar comes tosave them.
The Avathaar comes when there is yet a remnant ofgoodmen, yet a traceof Dharma; for what is
the use of doctorwhen the patient has collapsed? Whena large number of goodmen areafflicted
with the fear for the survival ofgoodness, thenthe Lordincarnates tofeedtheir droopingspirits
andrevive faithandcourage. "ParithraanaayaSaadhoonaam"in theGeethadoes not mean the
"protection ofsaadhus orascetics;" it means the "protectionof all who have saadhuvirtues;"
'saadhu' means 'good.' Goodvirtues might be foundeven in animals andinsects andworms. He
will guard andguide even such. He comes to promote Dharma; andvirtue is the foundation of
Dharma.
Ustedes no saben qué cosas
Él oró "asato mā sadgamaya" (असतो मा सद्गमय)--- A partir
The worldly outlook will deceive youandlandyouin grief. Youdo not knowwhich articles will
satisfy your inner cravings; youtry to possess whateverattracts your eye. Whenyoucrave for
the thought of the Lordandthe company ofthe Godly, thenyouare in Uttharaayana.Bheeshma
too was in that mood. He prayed "Asatho maasathgamaya"---From this transient worldof
decay, leadme to theeverlastingworldof Bliss; "Thamasomaajyothir gamaya"---Give me the
effulgence of ThyGrace andillumine mysoul with truth; "Mruthyor maaamritham gamaya"---
Save me fromthe torture of birthanddeath, destroythe cravings of the mindwhich produce the
seeds of birth andleadme to Immortality. That prayerandthat yearningofBheeshma gavehim
the vision ofKrishna when hepassedaway. That was thereal Uttharaayana for him.
entonces se les concederá la Gracia. Gasten la śakti (energía) de que están dotados;
Use the body well for the purpose given
Jeeva (individual) and Deva (Divine)are the two rails alongwhich theenginemanas is dragging
the coaches of VishayaVaasana(attachment tosense objects)along. Eachcoachcontains the
items of luggage each one has, viz., buddhi, antahkarana (intellect, innersenses),etc. Aathmais
the driver of theengine; if thecouplingwith the engine is not well connected, thecoaches will be
left loose on theline. Faithand shraddha(trust)are the couplings; see that they arefixedtight.
They do not fixthemselves, remember.Youhavetouse the strengthandthe intellect awardedto
you. Grace will be grantedonly then. Spendthe Shakthi (energy)youare endowedwith; then
pray for Raamashakthi.Raama orthe Lordwill then bless you; if youask forone, He will grant
youa hundred. This is the Karmadeha (the workingbody) giventoyou; use it well for the
purpose given.
recorrido a muchos lugares santos.
deben mantener pensamientos santos. Al ver a un médico, se acuerdan de su enfermedad;
I see many peopleherewho have come in the special buses which take them roundtomanyholy
places. I shall tell them mine words: When youreacha holyplace youshouldentertainonly holy
thought. On seeinga doctor, youremember your illness; when yousee a lawyer, youwish to
consult him onsome problemofpropertyor personal spite; when yousee a temple, youare
remindedof the Force that animates the universe. Your tourshouldnot be a Vinodha-prayaana
(travel for amusement) but a Viveka-prayaana (travel forusingdiscrimination) for you. Do not
use such pilgrim buses for goingon picnics; do not seektopurchase vessels andclothes and
rarities in theshops of the towns youvisit; payattentionmore tothe needfor fillingyour minds
with holy experiences overwhich youcan ruminate after returningto thequiet of your home.
When youare in the Kshethra(holy place), think ofthe Kshethrajna(divine dweller of the
place).
No
Move in the midstof the sacred and sanctifying
Loadyour bus with thoughts ofthe Glory ofGod, not with tinsel andtin cans. Again,do not get
involvedwith the badtraits that maybe foundin theplaces to which yougo. Seek thecompany
of the good, move in themidst ofthe sacredandthe sanctifying. That is what yougo so far for.
The shelves ofthe hospital are full of all types ofmedicines: pills, poisons, powders, emulsions,
lotions, mixtures, etc.Youshouldask not for thesweetest or themost attractively packeddrug,
but the drugthat youneedfor the illness yousuffer from. So too, let the holyplace havea
thousandotherattractions; do not run after them. Concentrate onthe thingyouhave come for.
The bhogi (enjoyer)andthe rogi (the sickly) shouldbe transformedintothe yogi (contemplative
saint); take the drugfromthe dispensarywhich will make youthat.
peligros imaginarios?
Become also fit forthe Vision ofGodthat youseek inthe temples. Go humbly, with premain
your heart for all creation; takethe Hrudhayapushpa(heart-flower), full of the fragrance of
prema, the Mano-phala(mind-fruit) uncontaminatedby the pests of greedandegoism; become
sweet in word, deed andthought so that youcan dedicate yourself to the service of God's Plan.
5. A person with faith in Godwill not be movedby panic, as somepeopleare, at the approaching
Ashtagrahakoota (conjunctionof eight planets). I assure youthere will be no extradanger tothe
world as a result of that conjunction. No additional calamity will happen; why, the A-shaanthi
that nowexists will even become a little less! Whenthe Avathaar has come, why fear likethis?
Why dreadimaginarydangers?
Prashanti Nilayam, 14-1-1962
One more thing: youwill have seen the announcement that youshouldnot bringtoMe fruits,
flowers, etc. Some of you, I know, are sadthat I have announcedso. But let Me tell you: Come
to. Me with emptyhands; I shall fill your hands with gifts andGrace. If your hands are full, what
am I to fill themwith?
Prashaanthi Nilayam,14-1-1962
Sathya Sai Baba
Any balance of karma-consequence will involve some years of
imprisonment in thebody. The Shaasthras advise manto wipe off
the balances by four steps:by scotching all sparks from the fire; by
getting rid of all signs, symptoms andcauses of fever; by paying
off all balance of debt;andby sufferingoff all consequences of
karma.
