El Manual diagnóstico y estadístico de los trastornos mentales en su quinta edición (DSM-V) incluye dentro los trastornos del neurodesarrollo los siguientes siete grupos: Discapacidad intelectual, Trastornos de la comunicación, Trastorno del espectro del autismo (TEA), Trastorno de atención con hiperactividad (TDAH), Trastornos específico del aprendizaje, Trastornos motores y Trastornos de tics. Es importante tener en cuenta que en una misma persona puede manifestarse más de un trastorno del neurodesarrollo. 2. INTRODUCCIÓN.
El proceso de aplicación de plaguicidas se direcciona
hacia un determinado objetivo. Sin embargo una
proporción variable (elevada por lo general) alcanza
destinos “no blanco” del ambiente donde éstos
resultan afectados.
El movimiento de los plaguicidas en la naturaleza es
muy complejo e incluye transferencias continuas. El
transporte de plaguicidas, está comprobado, ocurre a
grandes distancias.
El caso del DDT es emblemático, apareciendo en
tejidos adiposos de animales de ambos polos
geográficos.
3. INTRODUCCIÓN.
Desde el punto de vista agrícola, los plaguicidas son
generalmente aplicados en estado líquido con la
técnica de pulverizado sobre el cultivo y/o el suelo.
En algunos casos se incorporan como polvos en el
suelo o a través de semillas tratadas.
La distribución inicial del suelo se produce entre el
follaje de la planta, el suelo y la volatilización hacia la
atmósfera.
El transporte y destino de los plaguicidas se relaciona
con aspectos propios, inherentes a la naturaleza
química del principio activo y también con
características del contexto natural donde interactúa.

5. PROPIEDADES FÍSICO – QUÍMICAS.
VOLATILIDAD.
La volatilidad representa la tendencia del
plaguicida a pasar a la fase gaseosa, desde
otro compartimento ambiental.
Todas las sustancias orgánicas son volátiles en
algún grado dependiendo de su presión de
vapor, de la velocidad de difusión a la superficie
de evaporación y de la temperatura ambiente.
Las mayores pérdidas por volatilización se
producen en el período inmediatamente
posterior a la aplicación del plaguicida a las
plantas o al suelo.
6. Sin embargo en ambientes secos podría esperarse que estas
pérdidas se produzcan en forma continua. La volatilidad se
reduce apreciablemente una vez que el plaguicida es
incorporado al suelo donde la velocidad de volatilización está
condicionada por el desplazamiento previo de los plaguicidas
hacia la superficie a través de la difusión o transporte por el agua
del suelo.
Los plaguicidas con presión de vapor alta no se
consideran peligrosos para el agua o el suelo
dada su mayor tendencia a la volatilización.
Inversamente aquellos con presión de vapor baja
no son considerados peligrosos para el aire.

VOLATILIDAD.
7. La solubilidad describe la máxima cantidad de
plaguicida que será capaz de disolverse en una
cantidad conocida de agua.
Esta propiedad depende de la temperatura, y para
aquellos plaguicidas ácidos o bases débiles también
del pH. Generalmente se expresa en mg/L.
Cuanto mayor es la solubilidad del plaguicida en el
agua, mayor es su potencial movilidad en el medio
ambiente, dado que el compuesto no se mueve por
sí mismo sino en relación al tiempo que permanece
asociado a una solución líquida.

8. En general se admite que una solubilidad mayor a
30 ppm (mg/L) implica un riesgo potencial de
que el plaguicida alcance el agua subterránea.
Los plaguicidas organoclorados muy poco
solubles en agua son los plaguicidas menos
móviles, seguidos de los compuestos
organofosforados.
Los herbicidas ácidos son los más móviles. Los
demás plaguicidas tienen movilidades
intermedias.

PERSISTENCIA.
Puede ser definida como la tendencia de un
determinado compuesto a conservar su integridad
molecular, sus características químicas, físicas y
funcionales, en el medio a través del cual es
transportado y distribuido una vez introducido en el
ambiente.
Si un plaguicida resiste los procesos de degradación
química (hidrólisis), la fotólisis, la oxidación y la
transformación microbiana, será entonces muy
persistente, y tendrá un alto potencial para
contaminar alguno de los compartimentos
ambientales.
12. La velocidad de degradación se expresa en
términos de vida media, que se define como el
tiempo (días, semanas, años) requeridos para
que la concentración inicial del producto se
reduzca a la mitad. El tiempo de vida media se
relaciona con la reactividad que le es propia en
cada medio (aire, suelo, agua, plantas,
animales) pero también queda determinada por
las condiciones ambientales (pH, temperatura,
humedad, exposición al oxígeno del aire y a la
luz).

13. De acuerdo con los tiempos de vida media asociadas, los
plaguicidas pueden clasificarse como:
1 - ligeramente persistentes (días a semanas).
2 – moderadamente persistentes.
3 – muy persistentes.
La degradación en la atmósfera suele ser rápida por reacción
con el oxígeno, radicales libres o catalizadas por la luz solar.
En medio acuático la degradación se produce principalmente
por hidrólisis y también degradados por microorganismos
del sedimento.
En el suelo la degradación microbiana predomina, es
significativa también la degradación química.
En plantas y animales la descomposición esta gobernada por
las reacciones metabólicas de biotransformación.

PERSISTENCIA.
15. La adsorción entendida como la interacción del plaguicida
(adsorbato) con la superficie del suelo (adsorbente), es
considerada como el proceso mas importante en la
atenuación del movimiento de compuestos químicos a
través del suelo. Por medio de esta interacción las
moléculas de plaguicida pueden ser retenidas por la
fracción coloidal del suelo constituida fundamentalmente
por materia orgánica y arcillas.
La tendencia de un compuesto orgánico a adherirse a
partículas del suelo puede medirse a través de un
coeficiente que surge entre la razón de la concentración
del plaguicida en el suelo y la concentración en el agua.
Este coeficiente depende de la temperatura.

ADSORCIÓN.
16. Si el coeficiente es alto, significa una fuerte adsorción al
suelo, inversamente si el coeficiente es bajo, el plaguicida
se encuentra en la solución intersticial del suelo.
Existen correlaciones significativas entre las cantidades de
plaguicida adsorbidas y los contenidos de materia
orgánica y minerales arcillosos del suelo.
El principal efecto de la adsorción es la inmovilización, que
si bien disminuye el peligro que estos tóxicos conllevan,
al mismo tiempo convierte a los plaguicidas en los
compuestos más recalcitrantes a la degradación
microbiana.
Una vez adsorbido el plaguicida, el proceso de desorción es
más largo, y muchas veces una fracción del adsorbato
puede quedar irreversiblemente unido.

17. Las características externas condicionan el
comportamiento ambiental de los
plaguicidas, y se relacionan
fundamentalmente con la naturaleza del
suelo, el clima, las labores agrícolas y la
topografía del terreno.

18. La dispersión de cualquier compuesto químico se ve
influenciado por la estructura y la textura del suelo,
esto en función del camino y características del agua
que lo transporta.
Suelos Arenosos: con textura más gruesa tienen
mayor capacidad de infiltración resultando en una
mayor movilidad del agua y más probabilidad de
percolar hacia las napas.
Suelos Arcillosos: los pequeños poros retienen por
adsorción las moléculas impidiendo la difusión de las
mismas hacia los principales canales de flujo de
agua.

19. Contenido de Materia Orgánica: afecta desde dos
aspectos el destino de los plaguicidas, por un lado es
una fuente de energía para los microorganismos, a
mayor cantidad de MO mayor bioactividad, y por
ende mayor degradación de los plaguicidas.
Por otro lado las moléculas adsorbidas son retenidas y
de ese modo disminuye su disponibilidad de ser
degradado o transferido a otro compartimento.
En los suelos agrícolas, el laboreo implica una mejor
distribución de la MO en los diferentes perfiles del
suelo.

21. La temperatura, la humedad relativa del aire, el viento
son parámetros que influyen sobre el destino final de
los plaguicidas en el ambiente.
En zonas lluviosas las precipitaciones transportan los
plaguicidas, en tanto que en las zonas más secas es
el agua de riego la que realiza este movimiento. Por
esto último es que se recomienda el riego por
aspersión por sobre el riego por inundación para
disminuir la contaminación del agua subterránea.
En suelos secos predomina el efecto de adsorción, en
suelos húmedos el efecto de difusión.

22. La existencia de cubierta vegetal disminuye la
energía lumínica sobre la superficie del suelo, y
disminuye la degradación de plaguicidas por
fotólisis.
Del mismo modo la cubierta vegetal disminuye la
temperatura del suelo, reduciendo la
volatilización de los plaguicidas y su
degradación.
El uso de fertilizantes disminuye el pH del suelo
afectando la degradación y movilidad de los
plaguicidas en el mismo.

23. La deriva de plaguicidas durante las aplicaciones aéreas
contaminan sembrados contiguos, salud humana y al
ambiente en general.
Un 20% de estos plaguicidas se derivan a través del aire
durante este tipo de aplicación.
Para evitar esto es imprescindible respetar las restricciones
climáticas para su uso, tamaño de gota y condiciones de
operación.

26. Profundidad de la napa: a mayor profundidad el
plaguicida trata más tiempo en alcanzar el acuífero
freático, lo cual facilita su degradación.
Recarga: cuanto mayor es la recarga, más plaguicida
es transportado al acuífero, (por lluvia o riego).
Medio del acuífero: se refiere al medio material en el
cual se asienta el acuífero. En general a mayor
tamaño de grano y más fracturas en el medio, mayor
será la permeabilidad y la probabilidad de
contaminación del agua subterránea.
Suelo: a mayor contenido de arcillas y MO, menor será
la contaminación del agua subterránea.

27. Topografía: se refiere a la pendiente del terreno, el
agua dispersa a los plaguicidas por escurrimiento o
lixiviación. Lo primero contribuye a la polución de las
aguas superficiales, en tanto que lo segundo afecta a
las aguas subterráneas.
Impacto de la zona no saturada: esta zona es la
ubicada entre la napa subterránea y el nivel del suelo
propiamente dicho. Allí se producen efectos
degradadores de los plaguicidas (adsorción,
dispersión, etc.).
Conductividad hidráulica del acuífero: a mayor
conductividad, mayor vulnerabilidad.

características del medio observadas, los plaguicidas
exponen una movilidad intra e interfase cuya

Los plaguicidas puede volatilizarse desde el suelo, el
agua o la superficie de las plantas a través de un
cambio de fase. Se ha demostrado que desde las
plantas la volatilización es hasta tres veces mayor
que desde el suelo. En la superficie de las hojas la
temperatura es mayor a la del aire en los días
soleados, disminuyendo la volatilidad a medida que
el plaguicida se incorpora a las ceras foliares
superficiales.
Por otro lado la tendencia a pasar desde el agua a la
atmósfera dependerá de la solubilidad del plaguicida
y su relación con su presión de vapor. (ley de Henry).
30. Una vez aplicado el plaguicida su disponibilidad de
movimiento depende del modo en que fue
aplicado, su solubilidad, persistencia y asimilación
por las plantas.
Si el agua de riego o lluvia se mueve superficialmente o
verticalmente, transportará los plaguicidas hacia
zonas más o menos profundas.
Si el plaguicida es persistente probablemente llegue a
aguas superficiales o subterráneas respectivamente.
Los terrenos llanos favorecen la infiltración, en los
terrenos con pendiente predomina el escurrimiento.

31. Las aguas superficiales son un componente
importante del ambiente natural y se
encuentran sujetas a un continuo riesgo de
contaminación. De todas las fuentes de agua
dulce, son consideradas las más vulnerables
debido a su interacción con la atmósfera, el
suelo, el agua subterránea y los océanos a
través de los estuarios.
Dado que son hábitat de muchas especies
acuáticas el efecto nocivo de los
contaminantes se extiende inexorablemente a la
biota.

32. Las aguas superficiales en áreas agrícolas están expuestas
a la contaminación después de la aplicación a campo.
Las rutas más importantes de entrada de los plaguicidas

2. Escurrimiento a campo.
3. Erosión del suelo.
Estos escenarios de exposición difieren mucho en los
resultados.
La erosión del suelo y el escurrimiento son considerados los
principales fenómenos por los cuales los plaguicidas
entran a corrientes de agua, lagos, lagunas, etc.

Al igual que la lluvia, el riego incrementa el grado de
lixiviación y un exceso de riego, especialmente si es
por inundación, puede llegar a inyectar directamente
los contaminantes en el acuífero. El agua
normalmente se mueve a través de los microporos
en la matriz del suelo. Este flujo es lento y el
equilibrio de adsorción con las partículas del suelo
retardan su movimiento descendente. Si el agua se
mueve a través de macroporos (canales de antiguas
raíces, galerías de insectos), se produce un flujo
rápido percolando el plaguicida hasta las aguas
subterráneas.
34. Muchos plaguicidas lipofílicos tienden a acumularse en
diferentes organismos, incluso en los humanos. Los
términos utilizados para definir este fenómeno son:
bioconcentración, bioacumulación y
biomagnificación.
Bioconcentración: cuando alcanzan concentraciones
mayores en un organismo que en el medio al que
están expuestos.
Bioacumulación: la concentración aumenta en función
del tiempo, dado que su grado de absorción supera
la capacidad de eliminarlos.
Biomagnificación: esto sucede cuando la
concentración aumenta en cada eslabón de la
cadena trófica.
