lugares y hacen tapas (austeridades).
descansa.
YOU are all lucky indeedto be the residents,at least for some months every year,in this HolyPlace, which is known from very ancient
times as Badharikaashram. Manygreat sages have performed thapas here andrealisedthe Goal of Human Life. These snowy peaks teach
man to be as pure andunblemishedas theirwhiteness. The silenceof thesevalleys is very inspiring; when the heart is free fromagitation,
the tongue is dumbandthe ear has rest. That is why in olden times, andeventoday, saadhakas (spiritual' aspirants)came to these solitary
places anddid thapas (penance). But it is, no use searchingfor silence with a noisy storm raginginside you. Youare where your mind is,
not where your body rests.
This morning, I tookout fromits restingplace theNethralinga (eggshapedstone, representation ofShiva, withthe eye of wisdom in it)
which Shankaraacharya hadinstalledas the chief source of spiritual sustenance in this Shrine, and after abhisheka (consecrating by
sprinklingholywaterand puuja(ritual worship),it was sent back tothe original place fromwhere it will continue to scatter even more
Grace on the pilgrims who come here.Shankaraachaarya, when he first came here---he must have known this place andjourneyed up by
means of yogic powers---hadwith himfiveLingas, whichhe brought fromKailaasa; the otherfour heinstalled, in strict conformity with
the Shaasthras (scriptures), at Sringeri, Dwaaraka, Puri andChidambaram. Just as the mountains Nara Parvatha andNaaraayanaParvatha
which form the back-ground of this temple have the Neelakanteshwara Parvatha shining on the horizon between them both, this
NaaraayanaShrine has a Linga from Kailaasa as the core of its spiritual halo. The Ganga is born from the Foot of Vishnu and it is
sanctifiedby contact with the headof Shiva. Such stories are formedtoteach that there is no difference between one aspect of God and
another.
3. Templo de Badri-nāth
Los cuatro miembros del Puruṣa (persona) cósmico
The four limbs of the Cosmic Purusha
divina).
There is no roomforhigherandlower amongthe aspects of Godhead; there is no room for inferior or superior in status among the
various sections of mankind. The Purushasuukthaspeaks of theBrahminbeingtheface, theKshathriyathe hands, the Vaishyathe thighs,
andthe Shuudhra, the feet of the Cosmic Purusha.Apart from thefigurative meaningthat thepassage obviously carries, when Godis one
uniform sweetness andwisdom andgrace, any part is as sweet, as effulgent, as graceful as every other. A sugar doll is sweet all through;
the limbs are as much sugar as the head. The trouble comes andthequarrel starts only as a result of the want of Prema towards sugar.
4. Una vez que estás establecido en prema, no notaras estas diferencias nunca más;
Cachemira.
Once youare establishedin Prema, youwill not notice these differences anymore; theywill appearsilly, stupidandmeaningless. When
there is no Prema, egoism has theupperhand; quarrels about your beingsuperiorandothers beinginferiorraise up their heads. You are
in the holy presence ofPremaswaruupa(Divine Lovepersonified) Himself,Badhri Naaraayana; so youtoomust be full of Prema(love).
Do not entertainanyhatredor anger in your hearts. Most of youhavecome here on pilgrimage, fulfillingthedream ofa life-time. I know
howmuch sacrifice youhave made to put together themoneyneededforthis arduous yaathra (pilgrimage). I know the long time you
spent in planningfor this; I knowthe joywith which youstartedon this pilgrimage and the courage which has brought you here. You
have bravedillness, accident, poverty andhunger duringthe longtrekfrom your villages, wherever they may be, in Assam or Kerala or
Rajasthan or Kashmir.

Proceed towards the goal gladly over rock & boulder
Carry back with youthe silenceof these hills, the cool comfort ofthe Alakanandha, the warm affection of the hot springs that gurgle
from theearthhere, the spirit of sacrifice which brought sages andsaints tothis spot.Become better spiritual aspirants on your return,
carry on that other pilgrimage towards the goal more resolutely hereafter.Likethe Ganga rushingtowards the sea from where its waters
are derived, the Jeevi (individual soul)must hurry towards Brahman (Supreme Spirit) fromwhich it has separated. The Ganga does not
allowany obstacle tostopits course. Youtooshouldproceed, as this Alakanandha proceeds, laughing, roiling, trippinggladly over rock
and boulder towards the goal.
I would ask the residents of this place who are mostlymerchants, shopkeepers andpriests to take fromthe streamof pilgrims that comes
here every day,a pari of their Faith inBadhri Naaraayana. Just try for a moment to understandwhat it is that brings these people, poor,
old, decrepit, fromfar off places through this tortuous mountainroad, tothis Temple? There is a faiththat heartens them t o the last step
across the thresholdof 'this Temple.Plant that faith in your heart too; you'will thenfindthat your whole life changes for thebetter. Take
the Name of Naaraayana onyour tongue andbecome aware of its sweetness; you will find a new meaning in every act of yours. This
temple will thenbecome foryouthe House of Godandnot a source oflivelihood. Livelihood---any one can eke out anywhere, by any
one of a thousandmeans. But tobe in this place, a placeconsideredholyby millions, for thousands of years, a place at the very mention
of whose name millions standup andbowtheir heads in reverence, is indeeda great privilege,a great opportunity. Use that opportunity.
Use that opportunity well.
No exploten la ignorancia de los peregrinos
Do not exploit the ignorance of pilgrims
No

I must tell youone thingmore. I wouldask youto appreciate the ordeals, trials and tribulations of the pilgrims who come h ere. Treat
them kindly; do not speakharsh words andaddto their troubles. When after weeks of blistering walk and hungry vigil they reach this
Heaven, treat themgently. Do not exploit theirignorance andtry to get maximumadvantage out of it for yourself. There is a dharma
(Code of morality) forevenbusiness; do not overstepthat limit.ThenBadhri Naaraayana will bless you; not that He will give you up, if
youact otherwise. Onlyit will takea longer time! For, everylivingbeinghas someday or other to treadtheright pathand get merged in
the Grace of God.
