2. Introduction
• Klebsiella pneumoniae
It´s a gram-negative bacillus, not mobile, of the
Enterobacteriaceae family .
The bacterium can develop a capsule that acts as a
determining factor in virulence which protects the
microorganism from phagocytosis.
3. • NDM-1
It is an enzyme of type b-lactamases classified by Ambler in
class B.
In 2008 emerged a new strain: New Delhi MBL-1 (NDM1), that
was isolated from Swede patient who had traveled to the city
of New Delhi.
4. Objetive
• NDM-producing Enterobacteriaceae clinical isolates
remain uncommon in the European region. We describe
the emergence and broad dissemination of one successful
NDM-1-producing Klebsiella pneumoniae clonein Greek
hospitals
5. Materiales y métodos
• Recolección de los aislados bacterianos e identificación
fenotípica.
13. Discusion
Author Concept Yes or not
Albiger B, etal In most European countries NDM-producing K.
pneumoniae are still rarely reported, and only a few
outbreaks of limited extent have been recorded.
YES
Voulgari E, etal Following the initial extended outbreakin Greecein 2011
and throughout the duration of the current survey, the
isolation of NDM-1-producing K. pneumoniae exhibited
a considerably increasing trend in these Greek hospitals.
YES
Savov E, etal It is notable that PFGE analysis of the ST11 clonal type
of the current survey in comparison with the ST11clonal
type detectedin the NDM-1 K. pneumoniae outbreak in
Bulgaria revealed the same PFGE profile (Figure 2)
YES
14. Conclusion
• Knowing the different
strains will help to make a
better choice of antibiotic
treatments for this
opportunistic bacteria.
• Knowledge about their
transmission between
people will decrease the
increase in resistance that
the bacteria acquires as
time goes by.
