2. DEFINICIÓN
La preeclampsia es un trastorno del embarazo asociado con hipertensión de nueva
aparición, que ocurre con mayor frecuencia después de 20 semanas de gestación y
frecuentemente cerca del término. A pesar de que a menudo acompañada de proteinuria de
nueva aparición, hipertensión y pueden presentarse otros signos o síntomas de
preeclampsia en algunas mujeres en ausencia de proteinuria.

• La preeclampsia está asociada a diversos factores de riesgo.

La razón de mortalidad materna calculada es de 50.8
defunciones por cada 100 mil nacimientos.
Las principales causas de defunción son:
