16. METHODS:Two hundred and,eighteen former elite0male athletes
(soccer,,volleyball,,martial arts,,track and,field and basketball players,,
and,skiers),and,181,male controls that reported no,systematic athletic
activity were examined by means of,questionnaire,,clinical and,
radiographic evaluation.,Exclusion criteria were age younger than 40,
years and,a,positive,history of,lower extremity surgery,,bone or soft
tissue trauma,and,inflammatory arthropathy.
RESULTS:Overall,,the prevalence of,clinical OA0between former elite0

Abstract
The aim of*this study was to*systematically review the recent scientific literature to*explore*the prevalence of*
osteoarthritis (OA)*in formerelite athletes from team and*individual*sports.*A*systematic review of*observational studies
was conducted.*Based on three categories of*keywords (and*synonyms),*a*sensitive search strategy was built in*order
to*search MEDLINE*and*SPORTDiscus from 2000*to*2014.*The data*from included studies presenting a*prevalence
rate of*OA*as*an outcome measure were extracted using a*standardised extraction form,*and*their methodological
quality was described.*Fifteen studies were identified through our search strategy,*studies being rather heterogeneous
with regard to*their study population and*to*the definition and*assessment of*OA.*Hip*OA*ranged from 2*to*60%,*and*
knee OA*from 16*to*95%.*Prevalence rates of*general,*lower limbs or hip/knee OA*ranged from 1*to*59%.*Prevalence
of*neck,*back,*shoulder and*ankle OA*was reported only in*single*studies (16,*18,*33*and*3%,*respectively).*This
study showed that prevalence of+OA,+especially in+their lower limbs,+
seems to+be+high among former elite+athletes from team and+individual+
sports compared to+the general+population and+other occupational
sectors

28. The purpose of*this study was to*conduct an up3to3date*systematic review and*meta3analysis of*
radiographic knee osteoarthritis (OA)*over minimal ten*years after ACL reconstruction.*The database
of*Pubmed and*the Ovid was adopted.*The radiographic knee OA*over minimal ten*years
after ACL reconstruction was systematically reviewed.*Both the ipsilateral and*contralateral*knees
were evaluated referring to*the tibiofemoral joint (TFJ),*the patellofemoral joint (PFJ),*and*the overall
knee OA*prevalence.*Nineteen studies were included for review,*with nine screened for the meta3
analysis.*The overall knee OA*rate ranged from 8.3379.2%,*meanly 51.6%*on the ipsilateral sideQ*
ranged from 3.6335.7%,*meanly 15.5%*on the contralateral*side.*Compared to*the contralateral*side,*
the RR*of*developing radiographic OA*was 3.73*(P<0.01)*for the overall knee,*2.88*(P<0.01)*for TFJ,*
and*2.42*(P<0.01)*for PFJ.*Ipsilaterally,*the RR*of*developing TFJ*radiographic OA*was 1.15*(P<0.01)*
compared to*that of*the PFJ.*Over a*minimum of*10*years after surgery,*more*than half the cases*
developed overall radiographic OA*on the ipsilateral knee,*which was nearly four times*higher than
the contralateral*side.*On the ipsilateral knee,*the TFJ*was most affected.

A'total'of'108'(retired NBA players completed the survey.'More'than one<third (36.3%)'of'athletes
report currently experiencing hip and/or groin pain,'and'17.6%'had received injections
for hip or groin conditions since retiring from the NBA.'Since retiring,<14.7%<of<
respondents had undergone total hip arthroplasty.'The median'Tegner
activity level scale was 3'out of'10.'Nearly one<third (32.4%)'of'athletes report moderate to'severe
problems with mobility,'and'close to'half (48%)'had moderate to'extreme'pain/discomfort.
CONCLUSION:
Hip and groin injuries are'common among NBA'athletes,'affecting players throughout their careers
and'into retirement.'A'subset of'athletes may exist in'whom intra<articular hip pathology is not
appropriately identified and'treated while playing in'the NBA.
Retired NBA<athletes are<at<high risk of hip and groin pain after retirement
